♥Our barn♥

Here I am going to show the evolution of our barn. We purchased our property over 13 yrs ago, hoping that, in time, we would fill our 10 acres with animals, and buildings. Well, finally, in 2008, we got our first set of miniature chickens...which my husband built a coup of all coups for...then later that same year, we got our first 2 little miniature herefords...Carly and Claire-a-belle.

Being that I was not raised a country girl, everyone was so surprised how much I fell in love with cows!! Now, these miniature herefords are not like any cows, they are our pets. We have bottle-fed them, showed them at the county and state fair, and now these 2 have become mommies themselves....having our first calves at our little farm. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!

a replica my husband built my boys for Christmas!

We have now finished our barn, which was hand made to look old, all by the hard working hands of my husband. We ordered our lumber from Idaho, which is all rough-cut. The end result is perfect for our miniature farm!
This is the first calf born in the barn this winter...Denver and his proud mama, Carly.

Now, being that I am in love with these animals, I am finding it hard to sell them. My husband, who IS a country boy through and through, is trying to teach me "how it's done", knowing that they will give birth again next year does help...but so hard to let go!
I will post new pics of the calves soon, they have gotten so big, and enjoying the summer here at Irishman Acres!

My first post

I think that I will use this as a journal for myself...I have so many thoughts that consume me and need to get out. So I will start with a word each time I blog....today's word: Pleasure. Not in the sexual sense...although that does work too! :) I just watched, for the second time, the movie EAT, PRAY, LOVE with Julia Roberts. It is a true story of Liz Gilbert's, a writer from New York. She needed to find herself again after a messy divorce. Well even though my marriage to my husband is going great, and I feel like the luckiest mama in the world, I too, want to find some "pleasure" in my life. Don't get me wrong, I love my day-to-day of taking care of my family and home, but this year I want to focus on ME too.
What gives me pleasure?
1. Taking care of my farm animals
2. Watching my kids so playing so innocently
3. Having a clean home
4. Snuggling
5. Traveling with my family
6. Taking pictures
7. Homemade gifts
8. a well manicured lawn
9. comfortable pajamas :)
10. eating without guilt
In this new year of 2011, I am going to focus on pleasure! I want to try to be content with laundry that always needs washing, dishes that will ALWAYS be piled in the sink, kids' rooms that may not always look like a magazine spread...but something rather from the show "Hoarders". I want to focus on what I should...
1.Spending time with my kids before they are grown
2. taking long baths while reading a favorite magazine
3. Eating dessert every night without guilt
4. learning to sit and watch the world go by from my front porch swing
5. Scrapbooking those memories that I have taken so many pictures of
6. and traveling more with my family

I hope all this is accomplish-able and that I find time to actually ENJOY them without guilt! That is MY New Year's Resolution....to just have PLEASURE!

This is "What I NEVER knew that I ALWAYS wanted"

A born and raised city girl, finding the country life to be the real me! Every day is an adventure, and each season brings new excitement and experiences. I am learning and loving the path of finding my true passion....making this little farm our HOME!
