OUR COMPLETED BATHROOM...finally!

As promised, but a little late....here is our completed bathroom that I showed you a couple weeks ago:

 Just a Shower Curtain . Though it only actually took a couple weeks to install (weekends only), being the very impatient person that I am, it seemed like an eternity. I will show you on another day how much this renovation actually cost....so much less than you might think! (thanks to a very skilled and good looking contractor)

I will start with the flooring choice....After many trips trying to find EXACTLY what we wanted, we chose the brick slate:

It is so warm...feels like we installed radiant heat flooring, but WE DIDN'T! Who knew slate could feel warm??

We fell in love with the brick pattern, definitely a statement piece. And worth it's price! 

Now for the "PIECE DE RESISTANCE".....

I talked Baileyhusband my contractor into installing yet another wall of recycled barn tin 

like we did in our laundry room. Only, I really wanted rusty older looking tin....and am so happy with the look it provided for this shower. 

 

I did not want the camo to overpower this room, so I cut the shower curtain in half and installed it window-curtain-style. By switching the cut ends to the outside, they are hidden and became a NO-SEW project! But for those "perfectionists", I recommend just sewing the new ends....maybe someday I will....(probably not:)

I played around with the wall behind the door, some eye candy for the wee ones....most of these items were Christmas gifts for the boys, Wyatt and Gunnar. They had seen the turkey and moose pictures at Bass Pro when we were there visiting Santa, and fell in love with them....being that they went with the outdoor theme and camo shower curtain that I was already surprising them with....we sneakily purchased them without the boys seeing!

For the mirror, it was a no-brainer....we used some leftover wood from our home renovation projects and made our own frame....and when I say WE....I mean Baileyhusband my contractor.

LOVE THE RUSTIC WOOD....

We kept the same vanity...just made new drawer fronts, and purchased new pulls.

I think the white and wood combo is perfect while keeping this room from being too dark...

and goes with the new trim beautifully.

We kept the same light fixture, just spray painted it and changed the lights....Baileyhusband my contractor was quite pleased with himself for finding these, the picture is bad, but if you look closely, there is a leaf pattern on them.

 The walls are painted a kind of khaki, greyish color called "Family Tree". Which makes this formerly bright yellow room a little more moody. warmer. cozy. inviting. (should a bathroom BE inviting? I think so!!)

The faucet was the first thing we purchased, and looks like a water pump; perfect style, perfect color, perfectly US! The countertops are also new....I REALLY wanted concrete or black honed granite....but finally decided on this Quartz instead. Price (and being impatient) trumped everything else. But I really like it and it's still in keeping with our scheme.

YEAH!!! It's done, over, finished! Now the men- of -the -house have a room that is perfectly THEM, and also one that the lady- of -the -house is not embarrassed for our guests to use!

Winter Farm Work

Here, this is a blog about our lil farm and all goes on here....and all I have had on my mind and blogged about for a while is the INSIDE of our home. But, honestly, I have only been doing things inside, not much going on outside....

Until yesterday....ready for a post about some FARM-WORK?

Here it goes.....

Winter farm work is really an oxy-moron. Not much "work" goes on at the farm besides chores (feeding, watering, grooming, etc). But sometimes there are small projects that need tending to.....

Our BIG COWS, aka adults, had an old rusty hay bale ring that was not really doing it's job properly!

This picture was taken right before Clover got inside and all but crushed the rusty old ring!

So, out with the old and in with the new.....with a little help from Wyatt, and myself, (I am a great gate-opener and photographer of all things FARM-ish) hahahaha

See, my mad photography skills here? I know, I should win some sort of prize for this one.....

....but this one tugs at my heart strings a lil more.....such a handsome little fella! :)

And this is as far as I would go into the pasture where Ken was eyeing me.....that bull and I have a love/hate relationship, so thought I should stand back and let the men do their work. 

(don't worry, Wyatt was NEVER in harm's way)

the bathroom gallery wall

Boy, I know for such a small room, this little makeover is taking FOREVER!!!

And although I am NOT a patient gal, I suppose I tried! 

Poor Baileyhusband....paint was hardly dry and I was a-hangin-machine...

could not wait to get some artwork up on those walls and see my "vision" come to life!

As you can see, as of this day, there is no trim around the doorway, and we have the new cabinet fronts to stain, and some other touches to finish....but this is now a fully functional bathroom again!!! YEAH!!!

I have been promised that this weekend....this handsome tiny room will be ready for its full reveal.

Hey, as long as all the little men in my life can take showers and do all their "boy stuff" in their own bathroom again...all is right in MY world! ;)

The Tile Shop

When you begin a makeover at our house....it starts out as a negotiation over coffee. 

We list our wants vs. needs....and what we can actually afford!

And then several trips to different stores, sometimes dragging uninterested children, and hopefully sometimes calling it a "date" with just your spouse!!

After several of these trips, we ended up at The Tile Shop....where INSPIRATION ABOUNDS!!

Ok, so these two bathtubs are not really the look we have....but could not help taking pics of these bad boys! FYI: the tub pictured above is all stone and is about $10,000.  

I have had a BOARD on my Pinterest page called: Rustic Bath ...and have secretly been dreaming of this makeover for awhile now....but didn't think it was in our cards. Here are a few of my favorites:

We narrowed down that we liked the look of slate for our flooring....and found plenty of options:

And look at this bathroom display ...love the different tiles used.

Our budget was a major factor...and after weighing our options, decided that the flooring is where we wanted to spend the majority of our budget. Most of the other elements we already have or are hand making on our own. Besides, the room is extemely small, and we only needed 40 sq ft of slate. 

So which one did we get?? Stay tuned to find out!

Just a shower curtain!?

All I wanted was a new shower curtain for our hall bathroom (aka: the Boys' bathroom).

It had seen it's day....and our boys were growing tired of the monkeys and frogs. 

So, brilliant mom that I am....decided that for Christmas I would order them a new "BIG BOY" shower curtain, and maybe some new rugs! But then I made the mistake of telling Baileyhusband my plan.

You see, my husband has never been proud of this part of our home. He continually puts down, makes fun of, and is embarrassed of this room. "Not my best work", he explains. And to be honest, it is not our style anymore. He decided that IF we were going to get a new look in there......that we needed A WHOLE NEW LOOK IN THERE!!!

And this is Christmas morning....

.....some puzzled looks from my little guys.

In a box they received:

1. The new curtain

2. clock

3. towels

4. faucet

5. and a piece of tile (which we are now NOT using)

"Oh, we have BIG plans for this bathroom", explained their dad. While the boys were excited to see the result. I don't think they understood the magnitude of this little makeover.

The cabinets...15 yrs old....had seen better days. 4 children are being raised in this home, and this poor cabinet is proof of that!

One of several holes in the wall....yep, he can't just leave well enough alone!! According to Baileyhusband, the walls were drywalled incorrectly with shims that didn't need to be there, making the walls uneven. 

 Can you say CAN OF WORMS?? This is how almost every project goes around here....like a HUGE SNOWBALL....one thing leads to another....

Homemade Christmas gifts

I love everything homemade, handcrafted, repurposed, reimagined....

And Christmas time is the perfect time for that!

I made these letters for my sister-in-law. We have this tradition of giving "Homemade" gifts with Baileyhusband's side of the family. And while it has been challenging in some years, this year I knew that I wanted to give letters.  These are a different take on the letters that I posted about {here.} This is their last name...and I used all found material (bark, moss, pinecones, and branches).

 But of course, being that Baileyhusband is much more talented and gifted with tools and can make just about ANYTHING....he had to show me up! Here is the table that he made for last year's gift, but it needed to cure (or dry out) for a wee bit longer than we anticipated....so his sister received it this year. And sadly, I forgot to take a picture of it actually finished! UGH!!!!

Everyone on Baileyhusband's side is very talented, and the gifts are coveted by all!
There are homemade quilts, benches made of birch, woodburned signs and pictures, mirrors, chalkboards, lamps...believe me...I love them all!!!!

And this year's gift the ever-so-talented man of mine made a beautiful (reclaimed wood) table....here it is unstained:

And the table all finished, with the sweetest little Izzy (our niece) underneath!

Believe me, I want to keep everything he makes!! That husband of mine is quite talented!! And because I'm such a good wife, and he loves me....he made me some homemade gifts this year.....

A barn-board frame for our family picture we had taken this past summer. 

This was one of 3 frames he made me. Such a sweet fella......but I secretly think he was just tired of hearing me complain that I needed frames.

Whatever the reason....this BaileyWife was happy on Christmas morning!

Now we I have been coming up with plans already for next year. I have asked my sisters if we could do a homemade Christmas too....much less costly, and MORE meaningful!
